Why is my iPhone stuck in headphone mode?

    Software flaw? Hard Reset

Your screen is currently displaying the headphone mode and it won’t disappear even though you don’t actually have any headphones in. There are a number of possibilities as to why this occurred and it may be that the software of your device just needs a little reset to fix this bug.

    For a Hard Reset:

Force resetting your device turns your device on and off without affecting any data and resetting any current glitches or bugs your iPhone is facing.

iPhone 5/5s and 6/6s: Hold down both the power button and home button at the same time, hold down for 10 seconds and wait for the Apple logo to appear.

iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus: Hold down both the power and volume button. Hold down for 10 seconds and wait for the Apple logo to appear.

iPhone 8/8 Plus/ X/ XR/ XS Max: Hold down either up or down volume button and the power/lock button at the same time. Hold down for 10 seconds and wait for the Apple logo to appear.

Check your headphone jack for any dirt/debris

It might be time to inspect your headphone jack. Take a look inside your charging port and headphone jack (use a flashlight to do this) for any dirt and residue. If you can see that there is debris stuck inside, find a small brush either a toothbrush or paintbrush and use this to extract the dirt inside. Be sure to be gentle whilst carrying this out and do not use any tweezers. Use of tweezers can damage the delicate pins and components inside. If you can’t get the debris out.

You can also try using a can of compressed air. Press and hold the home button and blow this into the charging dock and headphone jack of your iPhone. This can remove any remaining dirt that is lurking inside.

If you require assistance with this, we offer in-store a Dock Cleaning Service in which our skilled technicians professionally remove dirt from your device. Please ask in store for more details.

Physical damage – possible liquid damage or damaged charging dock/headphone jack

This is a very common problem if your iPhone is stuck in headphone mode. If your iPhone gets wet, it can cause your device a lot of issues. Why? The charging port is connected with the headphone jack and both ports are the only access to water getting inside the device.
